Principal’s Greeting
Welcome parents / caregivers to Week Three Term One at Glenview
Kia ora Glenview parents and whānau,
A warm welcome to you all as we begin the 2025 school year. A special welcome to the new families joining Glenview School for the first time – Nau mai, haere mai, whakatau mai rā ki a koutou katoa. We are also delighted to welcome Kat Karadshi to our teaching team. Please feel free to introduce yourselves if you see her around the school and help her feel part of our wonderful Glenview community.
As we step into a new year, it is important to reflect on our core values and aspirations. With this in mind, we are focused on embedding our school vision of “bettering our best,” which was introduced in 2024. While excellence has always been at the heart of our mahi, we recognise that true growth comes from a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. This vision emphasises adaptability, resilience, and a collective pursuit of progress. It encourages us all to see challenges as opportunities, push beyond our boundaries, and foster a community where every individual is empowered to reach their fullest potential.
Learnership – the idea of consciously becoming a better learner – remains at the forefront of teaching and learning at Glenview School. This term, our school-wide focus is on Developing the Art of Learning. Students will explore how learning is a skill to be practised and refined over time. Rather than discovering talents, we believe in creating them through effort and persistence. Students will gain insights into their own learning processes and mindset. We will introduce the concept of the ‘Backstory’, helping students understand that success is not accidental; it is the result of dedication and incremental improvement. We want our students to work purposefully towards growth, rather than simply being busy. Learning contexts will differ across the school, but the focus on developing better learners will be a common thread. For more information, please see our Learnership resources.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the Glenview Whānau Picnic last Thursday. It was a privilege to have our school whānau together on site. This event was a fantastic opportunity to meet your child’s teacher for 2025 and connect with other families. It was also wonderful to see so many former students and whānau returning to share in the evening.
We say a fond farewell to our wonderful international students from China who have been part of the Glenview School community over the last two weeks. It has been an absolute pleasure having you with us, and we have loved sharing our classrooms, playgrounds, and special moments together. Your enthusiasm, kindness, and willingness to embrace new experiences have made a lasting impact on both students and staff.
Finally, good luck to all our senior students heading off to camp over the next two weeks. We extend our gratitude to the staff and whānau who are giving their time to make this experience possible. Your support is invaluable, and we couldn’t offer these opportunities without you!

Brimmed Hats & Sunscreen
I would like to remind parents that in accordance with our ‘Sun Safe’ procedures within our Health and Safety policy, the wearing of a brimmed hat is compulsory during terms 1 and 4 when the children are outside. We would also appreciate it if your child came to school wearing sunscreen. Please check your child has a hat at school. It is much easier if your child keeps a hat at school during these terms.
Student and Parent Contact Details
Could you please ensure that you let the office staff know if the contact details for your family change. This way we are able to keep our records up to date ensuring we are able to contact parents quickly if your child becomes unwell or if there is an emergency.
Nut Allergy
We have children with severe food allergies to peanuts/nuts, eggs and cheese at school. Any exposure to peanuts, other nuts, cheese and egg may cause a life threatening reaction.
To reduce the chance of this happening, please do not send any food containing peanuts or other nuts to school in your child’s lunchbox.
We also ask that if your child does have any egg or cheese in their lunchbox, it is important that they wash their hands and face straight after eating.
If your child has eaten peanuts, other nuts, cheese or eggs before school, please ensure their hands and face have been thoroughly washed before coming to school.
We appreciate your support of these procedures.

Junior Syndicate
The junior school had a very positive beginning to the school year. Our children are happy to be back and enjoying their learning experiences. J6 has been practising how to log on and off Mathletics independently so they can enjoy the activities set for them. They have also been having lots of fun with maths working with a partner, Here are some photos.

Middle Syndicate
We are excited to welcome all Middle Team students this year, including those joining Glenview Primary for the first time. Our classes have been busy with "getting to know you" activities, and the children have enjoyed sharing information about themselves, helping to build strong connections with their peers.
As part of our bridge inquiry this term, we are planning an excursion to view some of Hamilton’s bridges. This experience will spark discussions, inspire artwork, and lead to writing about the history and design of Hamilton’s bridges. We look forward to sharing some of the students' learning in the next newsletter.
Here is a selection of artwork and stories created by students across our team.
In M5 we have been talking about how far we have progressed in our learning since we started school as 5 year olds. Celebrating our success and thinking about the areas we would like to ‘ Better our Best ’ in 2025.
To capture these thoughts we have written letters to ourselves, that record these thoughts and some of the things we have been up to this summer. We will receive our letters back in term 4 and see how far we have come !

Our Amazing Chinese Buddies!
For two weeks, we had some awesome Chinese exchange students in our class, and it was such a great experience! They were really smart, especially at math, and loved learning new things. They gave us little gifts, and took lots of photos and videos. After school, they joined in on activities and were really funny—especially when trying New Zealand things like swimming! They thought the water was way too cold. They also loved seeing the kiwi at the kiwi house and had so much fun baking (and eating) mince and cheese pies for the first time. Now that they’ve gone home, we really miss them, but we’re excited to welcome more exchange students later in the year!
