Principal’s Greeting
Kia ora Glenview Parents and Whānau
As we near the end of another rewarding term, I wish to extend heartfelt thanks to our incredible staff for their continued dedication, passion, and hard work. Their unwavering commitment ensures that Glenview remains a nurturing environment where students flourish academically, socially, and personally.
This term, we've seen inspiring progress among our students, largely due to their engagement with the Habits of Mind. By practicing persistence, managing impulsivity, and striving for accuracy, students have noticeably strengthened their problem-solving capabilities and deepened their understanding across subjects. The strong leadership demonstrated by our teaching staff has also enabled a smooth transition into the new curriculum requirements, enhancing student readiness and adaptability. It is wonderful to witness their growth, enthusiasm, and commitment to becoming confident, independent learners.
Our school cross country was a fantastic event, brimming with spirit, determination, and remarkable athleticism. We’re especially proud of those students who were selected for the interschool team but unfortunately were not able to compete due to the horrendous weather conditions.

J9
This term in J9 we have been focussing on measurement and geometry for maths. We have measured all sorts of things including our bodies and have had fun creating with shapes.
For our cultural art project, we have made origami. We discovered that we can make all sorts of objects starting with just one shape that turns into another shape, and another shape and so on.
Following on with our inquiry around birds, exploring what makes each bird unique and how they survive in their natural habitat.
We have enjoyed having a weekly reading buddy session this term with J7. As a result, Miss Anderson and Whaea Dee are worried we will soon be out of a job because these tamariki have done an amazing job reading to each other as well as some children choosing to read in front of both classes. That takes courage and is a great way to build confidence. Tino pai too mahi!
Happy Learning

Middle Syndicate
For Arbor Day this year, a selection of students from across the middle team went on a field trip to Minogue Park. Our students joined a team of 200 others to plant 10,000 native trees — what an amazing accomplishment! It was a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the community’s green spaces while learning about the importance of native trees.
Arbour Day
On Thursday 5th of June because of Arbour Day I had to miss the cross country. I like planting so I signed up. Even though I went to Arbor Day and I didn’t have time to play, it was an amazing day.

Planting Next to the Trains
One day we went on a bus and I sat with my friend Johan. I sat next to the window. When we got there we had to plant 110 plants. First somebody showed us how to plant them. Next he dug a hole. When he took the spade out, it looked like a minecraft square. Then he squeezed the plant out of its bag and put it into the soil. He stomped the dirt down. Then Eleanor and Johan joined me and soon I had dirty hands. When it was lunchtime Eleanor, Johan and I had planted 30 plants. After lunch time we went on a walk. When we came back we went to the rubbish place and saw bees and lizards.
Jadyn - M4
When I got on the bus, I huddled against my seat and waited excitedly for the bus to start. When we got off the bus, I wanted to shout out loud. I could not wait to start the planting. I think I planted about 18 native trees until I got a bit distracted looking at all the other children doing the planting. When I got back to school I stood tall with pride and could not wait to tell my dad all about it.
Kylie Ann - M2
The bell screamed across the whole school. Children ran back to their classes in their bright house colours ready for cross country. Other people were excited about Arbour Day. Whaea Mandy led us outside to the bus, the sun was smiling at us while we piled into the bus.
As everyone found their seats. Me and Ruth flopped onto our seats and relaxed. The bus set off and on we went to Arbour Day! Me and Ruth chatted on and off about what would happen at Arbour Day. The bus zoomed around town getting us to our destination on time. The bus stopped and Whaea Mandy said to exit. We all scrambled out.
We went in a wobbly, twisty, mucked up single file line. We followed the other schools to where the plants were. We sat down on our tarp and got our gloves and scanned the area to see what was going on. Whaea Mandy told us to get in our groups and headed off.
Me and Ruth planted 6 plants and then we trotted off with the other group for morning tea. We gobbled up our lunch and headed back to school.
Bella - M1
Mrs Cox said “Go get your bags and go to M2”.
When we got to M2 Whaea Mandy checked if we had everything.
She said, “Everyone line up!”.
It seemed like the playground waved at me when I was on the bus. When the bus moved WE WERE ON OUR WAY! When we were half way through I found my lost small bouncy ball in my bag. I was just looking out the window when I realised we were already there. That was extremely long. I lined up then Mrs Karadashi gave me a extremely heavy bag with shovels. It was a very very long walk to the place but I still walked. When we finally got there someone gave us instructions. When we started planting I planted 6 trees. It was very hard at first but it started getting easy.
When we finished planting we started going on a walk that was 30 minutes. We watched the lizards and the bees. After that we went on the bus and came back to school. And that was Arbour Day!
Nishant - M1
At the start of the day I was excited, it was Thursday, IT WAS ARBOR DAY ! So I got ready for school, put a jacket on,some pants and even shoes for the first TIME. When we got to class we took the morning roll and then we had to go to Whaea Mandy’s class which is M2. Next we had to have a meeting about the day ahead.
After that we lined up and get on the bus and started singing Waikato e, Matariki and all sorts of songs. We even drove past McDonalds, Burger King,KFC, Subway, Carls jr, Pizza Hut, Dominos and all sorts of take aways it got me soooo hungry, I yelled out “ I’M SOOO HUNGRYYYYY!!!!!
When we got there we learned how to plant the trees, so you go to a tree put your foot at the bottom of the tree, you move the tree and get MUDDY!!! We heard so many people yell out “ I’VE DONE MY FIRST ONE YAY!” Also I heard people talking and clapping. When it was my turn I went all out, put all my strength in and dug a skux as hole. I put the tree in and it was perfectly ground height and that was my first tree. For me, hundreds more to go, we even skipped morning tea ! Oh and sorry did I forget, we did it at Minogue park, on the fifth of June. Everyone was so hungry we devoured our lunch so fast and we saw like ten amazing as geckos and like a trillion bees. We even saw the queen bee. Mrs Karachi and Whaea Mandy came and Mrs Karachi's son came too. It was so fun we even got to wear those bee suits, it was the best day of my life but I was so tired when I got home I couldn't even walk. By the end we planted 10,000 trees, there were 200 kids there.
THE END
Ooops I forgot these are the people that came from M5 Kahu, Aria, Ramona, Maraki, O’Mania and me.
THE END
OHHH and so thankful for my skux as mum for everything she's done, for letting me go, she's the best mum in the world
The actual END.

Arbor Day 2025
Hooray it's Arbor Day at Glenview School. 10,000 tree’s is that even possible? We arrived at Minogue Park at 9:30am thanks to a quick bus trip. Everyone cheered, we slowly but excitedly made our way out of the bus. Here we met Hamilton City Council members Sarah and Anna and asked some questions and found out more about what they do. Then we started planting trees.
This is how to plant a tree:
First you mark where your plant is. Then you get your shovel and dig a square first. After that you’ll lift up the dirt and put it aside. Then you get your plant and give it a good squeeze and twist, then it should pop out of its plastic pot. After that you make sure the plant is level with the ground. Then you put the plant in the hole and fill the spaces up and stomp on the dirt around the plant. Then you’ll have a plant ready to bloom!
After the planting we went on a nature walk with Jamie and Jodie guiding us. We learned a lot of things like how to identify Manuka and Kanuka.
Maunka have sharp leaves, and Kanuka have soft
Manuka’s have ginormous seeds and Kanuka have tiny seeds.
Fact! Manuka is mean and Kanuka is kind.
We also saw Ferns, Kowhai, Cabbage tree’s, it was a blast! We arrived back from the nature walk with time to spare so we looked at all of the exciting stuff and did activities like recycling games, listened to lecturers, saw lizards and bee’s and statue animals.
We need to thank the following; Kaya Ergul, Whaea Mandy, Mrs Karadshi, Jaime, Jodie, Sarah, and Anna. But Mrs Karadshi and Whaea Mandy organised this event.. THANK YOU!
